5 Ways to Ignite Real Conversations for Mental Health in your Workplace.
Purely Polished are here to spread awareness around Women's Mental Health and push to start conversations within businesses and teams to support, listen and speak about real stories regarding mental health.
We’re here with 5 ways to ignite real conversations for mental health in your workplace, to help you discover modern, genuine and unique ways to connect and check in on your team.
Be Intentional with all that you ask.
With morning WIPS and daily check in’s, one on one meetings and team updates, we are given several opportunities to converse and ask each other how our day is and how we’re going. But when you ask the same questions every day, our answers unfortunately develop instinct reactions and forget somewhere down the line to be more intentional with our questions and conversations.
Activate your mind when talking to those around you, and add another level of humility in the questions you ask your colleagues. Ask certain questions with details from past conversations by detailing specifics through names (of partners, children, parents, pets), asking about something you have in common and expanding your reach, asking for their personal recommendations or thoughts on topics, or even conversing about something a little deeper.
Provide Substance in Conversations.
We always talk about the awkward pause in conversations and how silence is a sign of incompatibility in relationships and friendships. But what about the long and comfortable silence in a room, where likeminded people are in deep thought and understanding.
Deep and real conversations are liberating and empowering, lifting our sense of connectivity with others and feeling at one with those around us. It is important to activate your system 2 mindset (Thinking Fast and Slow, Daniel Kahneman), and take time to construct, reflect and grow your relationships through genuine conversations. With a focus to spread awareness within the community through real conversations, we challenge you to send someone you care about, an intentional, out-of-the-blue message, to check in and let them know you’re thinking of them.
Establish Creative Prompts & Reminders.
Despite our circumstances with lockdown, restrictions and #stayathome initiatives, take time to understand & speak in the modern language through emails, memes, texts, and facetime video calls, establish a positive environment for your team with creative collaterals and content!
Send positive news updates in group chats. Send memes and little points of laughter.
Take-over and reinvent the first 5 minutes of your routine meetings and design a page in your power point presentation with a quote, a prompt for the day, a challenge for the week, a reminder for self-care.
Include sweet and different lines in your emails like; “hope you’re finding time to soak up that vitamin D today!”, “hope you’re making time for yourself during the week!”, “Stay safe and healthy!”.
